Language Classes
Spanish 1 – Geny Calicott, Instructor
[email protected]
In Spanish 1, students will be introduced to the Spanish language and culture. This course will teach the basic elements of conversational Spanish with an emphasis on vocabulary building and proficiency in the present tense, simple future, present progressive, with an introduction to the preterit.
The course will be conducted using a philosophy of teaching stemming from the progression most humans go through in learning a language - hearing, speaking, reading, writing. Each class is a combination of Spanish immersion and a text to systematically introduce grammar, the first offering experience and the second offering order.
The course will be conducted as much as possible in Spanish, so students will become comfortable hearing and using basic forms of the language. Students will listen, speak, read, and write in an effort to master foundations of the Spanish language. Weekly vocabulary quizzes and assignments will aid mastery.
This class will meet once each week. It is expected that students spend 4 to 5 hours outside of class each week completing assignments and studying vocabulary.
