Roles and Relationships
The Core Leadership Team facilitates learning by securing a meeting place and instructors.
Instructors plan, guide, and evaluate students who register for their classes. They provide a course framework and curriculum, in-class instruction, and assessment. Instructors meet with students in classes for one to two and a half hours a week for 34 weeks, meeting from mid-August to early May. Grades are provided.
Students learn by attending classes, taking notes, and completing significant out-of-class work each week. They have access to instructors throughout the week via email.
Parents continue to home school in a number of ways. They plot the student’s academic course and maintain all necessary records. Parents also assist students with time management, provide at-home assistance with weekly assignments, and hold students accountable for their role in the learning process. Parents provide a small number of volunteer hours each semester.
The Core program has been developed to provide assistance to the self-disciplined, home-schooled teen. Students must be prepared, attentive, and free from distraction to benefit from this educational model. Because the core classes are concentrated and require considerable student preparation outside of class, students who lack self-discipline will find success difficult and are advised to seek other educational models.
